Ash-a-Wha? The Herb Ashwagandha

Have you seen this supplement on a health store shelf? Ashwagandha, an Indian herb, is one of the most powerful in Ayurvedic medicine.

Ashwagandha is often referred to as “Indian ginseng” because of its rejuvenating properties even though these plants are unrelated (ashwagandha actually belongs to the same family as tomatoes). For thousands of years, it was prescribed to strengthen the immune system after illness. It is also used to relieve fatigue, poor concentration and anxiety. Ashwagandha is an “adaptogenic herb”, meaning it balances your response to stress.

There have been over 200 clinical studies done on it. It contains many medicinal chemicals that have been found to stabilize blood sugar in diabetics, lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, and enhance sexual desire in men and women.
